Darwin Travel Guide
Located in the Northern Territory of Australia, Darwin is considered the country's tropical capital. Combine unspoilt beaches and waterfalls with warm climate throughout the year, and it becomes easy to see why this city is so popular with tourists, many of whom choose a tour of Darwin in order to fit in all of its major tourist attractions.
The first inhabitants of Darwin were the Larrakia Aboriginals. In 1869, it became Australian northern harbour port. It was not after the discovery of gold that the population quickly grew.
During World War II, Darwin was instrumental in assisting troops fighting against the Japanese. The military sites, ammunition bunkers, and oil tunnels stationed throughout the city are still visited by tourists world wide. A tour of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory is an excellent way to explore and learn about Darwin's history. View Aboriginal art work and relics of some tools still used today. A major piece of history showcased here is the devastating event of Cyclone Tracy in 1974. A display shows how the people came together as a community to help rebuild their city.
