Alta Ski Resort Guide

About the Resort

This resort like many others in the US began life as a mining town. It has begun to embrace the 21st century and introduce new fast quads. It has remainded popular with serious skiers who look for steep terrain and it's peacefull location rather than any off slope diversions. Most accommodation is in the form of lodges with a smaller number of hotels. It is less than an hours drive from Salt Lake City.

About the Mountains near Alta

This is one of the largest skiing areas in the US. It has a great reputation with serious skiers for its snowfall and steep terrain although it is prone to avalanches and so closures. There are two separate lift bases serving its high ridges and miles of perfectly groomed slopes. Intermediates with confidence will enjoy some slopes but this is a 'serious ski' resort not much suited to beginners or timid intermediates.

Après Ski at Alta

There are some great points with this resort but eating out and wild nights are not amongst them and there are few off slope distractions.
