Cordoba is located in southern Spain; it has a rich history dating back to the 8^th century. Its Moorish influences can be seen in the city’s unique architecture, monuments and archaeological remains. Tourists will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere while browsing the shops or taking in the local cuisine.

This UNESCO World Heritage site displays ancient mosques and palaces, making it a tourist magnet of Andalucia. The Mezquita, or Great Mosque, is still considered one of the most incredible structures in Spain. Originally built for Islamic prayer, it is now open to all and considered one of Cordoba’s main tourist attractions with its grand arches which are tiled with granite, marble and onyx.

The La Judería’s winding streets offer a labyrinth of flowered courtyards including La Plaza del Potro square, which offers a quiet ambiance and exquisite floral displays. Many locals gather here to chat, or people watch and there are a number of quaint cafes and restaurants nearby.

A visit to the Diocesan Museum of Fine Arts is worthwhile. This stunning structure has a chapel and galleries of medieval art and tapestries. Cordoba artists are showcased and a collection of psalms from the city’s cathedral are also on display.

The Alcazar houses the Diocesan Museum and features a spectacular castle, palm-lined gardens, towers and baths. The 12^th century castle has Gothic architecture and adjoins its three towers by floral-lined walkways. Each tower has its own history and picturesque views of Cordoba. The Moorish-style baths are located in the basement of the castle and have an exceptional view of the city skyline.

Just outside Cordoba city, in the southern province of Cordoba, are lush vineyards and olive groves. Many of the small villages offer tours and wine tasting. The town of Baena makes exceptional olive oil straight from the press and is a suitable daytrip from Cordoba.

Transport Around Cordoba

The Cordoba Airport operates light aircraft only. The best way to reach Cordoba is to fly to Granada and then catch the express train into Cordoba. However, the nearest international airport is several hours drive away in Malaga or Sevilla. picking up a hire car will give you the best access to all of the great Cordoba tourist attractions.
