Although a relatively small city, Salamanca has an impressive tourist infrastructure that offers many attractions and points of interest. Among the more popular attractions is the city’s central square, the Plaza Mayor. The plaza was originally a venue for bullfights but is now primarily used for concerts. This beautiful Baroque square is regarded as one of the finest squares in Europe and is visited by scores of locals, students and tourist.

A stone’s throw from Plaza Mayor is the Central Market. This is truly a shopper’s paradise with countless stalls offering fresh products, local works of art and lovely souvenirs.

The Casa de las Conchas (House of Shells) is adorned by 300 shells left by pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela and the Renaissance palaces of Salina, Orellana and Anayana, and are must-see. Art aficionados will be delighted to visit the Museum of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.

Shoppers will not be disappointed as there are countless shopping opportunities available. From upmarket designer boutiques to little stalls selling religious trinkets, even the most discriminating shopper will find something special.

Hikers and cyclist can journey along the old Roman road and pilgrim route. Here you can explore medieval villages and admire the stunning natural beauty of the Sierra de Francia mountain range.
