Koh Samui Travel Guide

Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui is a picturesque tropical island that has many luxury holiday resorts along coconut tree-lined beaches. Sitting back on a deckchair and sipping on cocktails is certainly in order when you’re visiting Koh Samui. With a great nightlife, numerous fine dining restaurants and an airport, Koh Samui is a great spot to spend your holiday.

Around the island there are many tourist activities to enjoy including beach sports, go-carting, a shooting range, elephant rides, jungle trekking, bungee jumping and Thai cooking classes. Nightlife on the island is surprisingly lively with many bars and clubs, some of which are situated beachside with amazing views.

Koh Samui Tourist Attractions

Positioned on the northeast tip of the island is the stunning gold-tiled Wat Phrayai, where the impressive ‘Big Buddha’ stands. The 24-metre high statue rests on top of the Koh Faan, a small island that is connected to the shore by a small sand causeway.

Accommodation on Koh Samui varies from inexpensive beach bungalows to luxury resorts offering a complete five-star experience with spectacular views. There are many fine restaurants serving international cuisine or you can enjoy dinner by the beach at one of the numerous local seafood restaurants.

Being only a short distance from nearby the islands of Koh Phangan, famous for its full moon party, and Koh Tao, well known and respected for amazing marine life, Koh Samui is the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding areas.

Transport Around Koh Samui

The easiest way to travel to Koh Samui is by air; Bangkok Airways has over 20 flights arriving from all over Thailand everyday. From the airport, mini buses and private taxis are available. There is a ferry service that operates between the Gulf islands and the mainland. There are travel packages, which take you from Bangkok by train or bus, and include ferry connections to the island.

Koh Samui is a fabulous place to explore and this can best be done by hiring a car, the hire car can be picked up at the airport.
