Bad Gastein

This resort does attract some criticism against its steeply tiered and cramped location. It sits near the head of the Gastein Valley and has spread out. The links to and from the slopes are not easy to access as they are a bus ride away and so a car would be a necessity especially with small children if you are looking for a stress free trip. The ski bus service is not efficient. The Ski Alliance Amadé lift pass covers over 30 resorts in the region. It has good long runs for the confident intermediate skier and extensive and varied slopes above and below the tree line.

About the Mountains near Bad Gastein

Bad Gastein is part of the Amadé Ski Area, which has 760 kilometers of downhill pistes and 270 ski lifts. Although there are some woodland runs, most of the runs are on the open slopes above the tree line. Stubnerkogel has runs in all directions. There is night skiing once a week on the nursery slope. The higher slopes of Sportgastein are exposed to wind and the sun. There are quite a few good long red runs and the black runs are not too severe. There is plenty of opportunity to go off piste but it is not a great place for the beginner as none of the scattered nursery slopes are ideal and the blue runs are said to be a bit boring.

Après Ski at Bad Gastein

The town is not the most lively and it is possible to spend your evenings quietly enjoying a meal in a cosy restaurant. The mountain restaurants have a good reputation for offering excellent service.
