San Sebastian Travel Information
San Sebastian, also known as the 'Pearl of Cantabria', is an upscale seaside resort that offers visitors spectacular beaches, lush landscapes and awe-inspiring views. This modern and stylish metropolis has become a top tourist destination for jet-setter as well as families on holiday.
Hikers are in for a special treat as there are amazing hiking trails that lead to the statue of Christ while cyclists can tour the city on the convenient and scenic bike trails. If water sports are more to you liking, San Sebastian has two main beaches, La Concha and La Zurriola. Sailing enthusiasts typically frequent La Concha, while surfers prefer the high waves of La Zurriola.
This bustling metropolis also boasts a vibrant nightlife with trendy clubs and discos sprinkled throughout the city. Also on offer are fantastic restaurants that feature delicious Basque cuisine, which is believed to be the best food fare in all of Spain. One of the local favourites is tapas (appetizers) and although tapas were invented in AndalucĂa, San Sebastian is credited for perfecting this treat.
San Sebastian Tourist Attractions
San Sebastian has much to offer the inquisitive tourist by way of culture, only a stone's throw from San Sebastian in Bilbao, tourists can visit the Guggenheim Museum with its elaborate building and paintings. Other museums include the Museum of Fine Art and the Bullfighting Museum (Museo Taurino).
Shoppers will be satisfied with the upmarket boutiques and designers stores with many popular high-end chain stores having found a home in San Sebastian. There is also an enclosed shopping mall in the city with all major stores represented.
The charming old quarter area has some of the most splendid examples of architecture and restored townhouses. The cobbled streets and remnants of the old city walls make this an area well worth seeing.
When travelling to San Sebastian, we strongly recommend you take out travel insurance for you and your family, especially if you are going to be involved in climbing or water sports. If an accident does occur, having a comprehensive travel insurance plan will prove to be invaluable.
