Phuket Travel Guide
Phuket is a very popular tourist destination. Recently Phuket has become one of the most popular Southeast Asian destinations for weddings abroad. Situated in the south of Thailand in the Andaman Sea, Phuket is the country's largest island and has a magnificent landscape with thick lush forests, limestone cliffs, high mountains and white sand beaches.
The main attraction on Phuket is the fantastic beaches and crystal clear waters with their thriving marine life. Scuba diving and snorkelling are very popular, with many companies offering day trips around the island in a boat, stopping at the best spots. Other sports activities include jet skiing, parasailing, kite-boarding and climbing.
Phuket Tourist Attractions
When you have had enough of the beach, there are plenty of other activities to take part in and tourist attractions to see. Take a trek into the jungle either by foot or elephant, visit Buddhist temples and check out the local wildlife. Being quite a developed island, many other attractions such as bowling, cinemas, mini golf and water parks are also available. Nature lovers can visit Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Conservation park full of endangered animals and impressive trees.
Phuket has some stunning five-star luxury resorts such as the Four Seasons, Hilton and La Meridien. There are also many inexpensive beachside bungalows which offer a great laidback atmosphere its nightlife is centered around Soi Bangla.
There are all types of restaurants ranging from local Thai street vendors to expensive international cuisine in some of the luxury hotels. Being surrounded by tropical waters, you can be assured of freshly caught seafood. There are some great Thai-style seafood restaurants along Patong Beach serving delicious Thai cusine.
Transport Around Phuket
Located in the north of the island, Phuket International Airport caters to many domestic arrivals as well as flights from neighbouring countries. Taxis and mini vans are available from the airport to the main centre of town, Patong Beach. Because Phuket is connected to the mainland by bridge, driving onto the island is effortless. Buses from all over Thailand travel to Phuket daily.
When in Phuket, travellers are advised to take care on the roads if hiring a car or motorcycle as many tourists have accidents each year. The beaches are reasonably calm but do not always have any rescue services in place.
