Philadelphia Travel Information
Philadelphia is situated in the southeast of Pennsylvania in the Untied Stated of America. Philadelphia is a sprawling city with many districts full of restaurants, attractions and entertainment. Founded in the late 17th century, Philadelphia is an important city in America's history, being the birthplace of the country's modern democracy.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a must-see when visiting the city, with a massive collection of famous artworks from all over the globe. The outside steps are also home to the famous 'Rocky' statue that was seen in the blockbuster Hollywood film. The Academy of Natural Sciences is an interesting attraction with many hands-on and walk-through displays.
Philadelphia Tourist Attraction
Tourists will enjoy the many beautiful parks and charming streets that can be found throughout the many districts of Philadelphia. The 'old city' has the Liberty Bell as well as Independence Hall. South Philly has a strong Italian community and is also famous for being featured in the Rocky film. Washington Square is a quaint area with cobbled streets, some music theatres and great restaurants.
The city is home to some great shopping malls and markets, with the Bellevue road area offering a large variety of boutique fashion shops including Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie and Gap. The area also has a Teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland store that has been made famous by Oprah Winfrey's love for their Champagne truffles.
Transport Around Philadelphia
Getting to Philadelphia is very easy with a host of daily flights arriving to the international airport from cities all over America and some European and Latin American destinations too. Amtrak train services and Greyhound buses offer hundreds of daily routes to most major cities throughout the United States. With Philadelphia being positioned at the crossroads of many regional interstate highways, driving to the city is a good option. Interstates 76 and 676 lead directly into the downtown area.
When travelling to the city be extra vigilant of where you walk and be careful of your valuables, as pick-pockets and muggings can occur. We recommend that you and your family be extra careful and purchase comprehensive travel insurance before you leave home.
