Cambodia is a spectacular country highlighted by warm and friendly people. The country is blessed with dazzling landscapes and countless noteworthy attractions.
Visitors come from all over the globe to view the awe-inspiring manmade wonders that are visible throughout the country including the magnificent Angkor Wat.
Visitors are pleasantly surprised to find out that the country offers much more than magnificent structures. Cambodia also has lovely beaches, isolated jungles and mystifying rivers.
The vibrant city of Siem Reap is the home of the most celebrated attraction in Cambodia, Angkor Wat, the largest ancient temple complex in the world. Located just a few miles from the city centre, this colossal religious structure is the number one reason to come to Cambodia. In fact, it still serves as a spiritual hub and holds the remnants of historic palaces and ancient temples. Other attractions in Siem Reap include the Bayon and Ta Prohm temples.
One of the most fascinating regions in the country is the floating town of Kompong Luong. Home to thousands of residents, the town actually has houses, restaurants, schools and other town structures rising and falling with the tide. The town is located about 24 miles from Pursat.
The city of Phnom Penh was founded as a monastery in the mid-14th century by the Khmers and has become a destination that is filled with excitement and activity. Shopping enthusiasts will be in a veritable paradise while visiting the bustling Battambang Market. Here, everything under the sun is on offer and bargaining for a good price is not only accepted, it's half the fun.
One of the top sights in Phnom Penh is the Royal Palace. The palace is an excellent example of classical Khmer architecture. The Silver Pagoda, located in the palace grounds, houses a Buddha statue made mostly of gold and is dotted with 10,000 diamonds.
Battambang, Cambodia's second-largest city, contains an impressive collection of colonial architecture. The city is now gaining a foothold in the country's tourism industry largely due to its lovely temples and charming villages.
The beach areas in Cambodia are located near Sihanoukville. Here, visitors can participate in water sports like scuba diving and snorkelling. Sihanoukville is also a wonderful base for exploring Ream National Park.
Although Cambodia has recovered remarkably from its early conflicts and tragic past, as with all other travel destinations mishaps can happen. We highly recommend that you obtain travel insurance prior to your visit to Cambodia, especially if you are planning to engage in sports like hiking and trekking. A comprehensive insurance plan will give you peace of mind knowing that you are covered in case of an accident or a medical emergency.
