The future of London’s Heathrow International Airport is still a hot topic in the nation’s capital, and with two divisive factions vying for supremacy in the media, Baroness Jo Valentine of the organization London First has expressed her middle-path opinion in a letter to the Telegraph newspaper.

'You would think from the debate on Heathrow expansion that there were only two sides to this story. As the consultation closes this week, there is the 'anti’ faction who say‘green means no growth, not now, not ever'. The ‘pros’ say ‘expansion at all costs. The debate has become black and white. I refuse to sign up to black or white. Londoners deserve and need green and gold - a greener and more successful airport,’ she writes.

What we are seeing in the media now seems to be either protests on runways or press releases about the financial future of the airport. The airport needs more space, to operate more efficiently as well as dong everything it can to minimize environmental impact. Valentine continues, 'A green Heathrow might deploy all electric ground vehicles, high-efficiency heating and cooling of terminal buildings and excellent access by public transport. However, I believe the price of air travel should include the full cost of its impact. Without this the case for Heathrow's development will be open to criticism.'
