After experiencing what they have called a ‘hellish’ holiday in Egypt, 15 British holidaymakers instituted legal action against Directline Holidays, lowcostbeds.com, Ramsey Travel and Thomas Cook.

It has also been reported that three other companies are being investigated with a view to possible claims.

The law firm Irwin Mitchell has noted that the holidaymakers described what was promoted as a five-star hotel in Egypt as being an “insect-infested hell hole”.

Experts in travel litigation are investigating claims that under-cooked food served to them at the Hauza Beach Hotel caused serious gastric problems.

David Harle, one of the holidaymakers, said that the £2,000 all-inclusive trip he took with his wife in June was ruined when they both fell ill after eating food served at their hotel.

Harle is taking legal action against Thomas Cook.

Irwin Mitchell partner Suki Chhokar said: “We have received enquiries from more than a dozen other holidaymakers who travelled with several different travel companies and whose stories are similar to Mr Harle’s. It is simply unacceptable. Why is it that the health and welfare of British tourists is put at risk time and again?”
