Given Lubinda took the plunge camera over Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River on Friday in the effort of encouraging visitors to feel safe about adventuring into the country.
The move comes after Australian woman dropped into crocodile-infested waters when her bungee cord snapped last week. Despite the threat of wildlife, injuries sustained during the fall, strong rapids and having her feet still banded together from the bungee rope, the 22 year-old was able to make her way to shore and suffered only a broken collarbone, cuts and bruises.
Mr Lubinda said in a statement before his own jump that he was sure the accident was a one-off event and that bungee jumping attractions in the country are safe. He added that the Victoria Falls bungee jump had been declared a “fully viable operation”.
Meanwhile, the head of the Safari Par Excellence travel firm, which had organised the jump for the young Australian, has since issued a statement saying that in excess of 150,000 people had bungee jumped in Zambia in the last 17 years and that until last week there have been no incidents.
