Austria Ski Resort Guide for Schladming

Schladming Ski Resort Guide

About the Resort

Schladming has a long skiing history and has hosted the World Cup races for many years. It has extensive slopes on four interlinked mountains most of which are excellent for intermediates. The town sits at the foot of one of four mountains - the Planai. To the east is a small village of Haus where a cable car and gondola go up to the highest of the four linked mountains. The town itself has a traffic free main square and some good shops and restaurants.

About the Mountains near Schladming

There is not much in this town to interest the expert skier and the slopes do lack variety. Most pistes are on the wooded north facing slopes above the main valley, there are some open slopes above the trees. There are some good links to the slopes but getting around the whole area can take some time and can involve riding a lift through a tunnel. All the mountains have a similar heavily wooded terrain with mainly red runs of much the same pitch.

Après Ski at Schladming

There are some good mountain restaurants that become a bit lively at the end of the afternoon. Many of the central bars are open until late and often stay open until dawn. There are some live music venues and discos.
